Alayna McKervey is our student of the week for the week of December 8. She is participating in the morning session of the Early Childhood Education program at the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center. Alayna is a senior enrolled at Port Allegany High School. Upon graduation, Alayna plans to continue taking the necessary steps toward her long-term goal of opening her own daycare center. With her strong work ethic, passion for early childhood education, and leadership experience, she is well on her way to making that dream a reality.
Alayna is currently working toward earning her Child Development Associate (CDA), a national credential sponsored by the Council for Professional Recognition. She plans to take the CDA exam within the next few months. To complete her required hours, Alayna works in Coudersport at Daniel’s, where she enjoys helping children learn and grow. She finds it especially rewarding to witness students reach new milestones and to build meaningful personal connections with each child. Throughout her time at the Career and Technical Center, Alayna has been actively involved in the student committee during her first year and has accumulated numerous community service hours. In addition, she has participated in varsity club, student council, varsity softball, and NTL all-stars softball. She was also the 2025 Miss Port Allegany, McKean County Fair Queen Candidate through Port Allegany High School.
We look forward to her efforts paying off as she strives to attain her Child Development Associate credential in the near future. Alayna was selected since she has shown great improvement in the program. She has developed knowledge and takes on many responsibilities. She is also learning to juggle all aspects of adult life. Congratulations, Alayna!
